Kudzu roots are derived from the dried roots of the legume plant. Perennial deciduous vine, up to 10m long, covered with tawny brown coarse hair. The roots are cylindrical, thick, gray-yellow, silty and fibrous. It is born on the side of the hillside grass and on the damp side of the open forest.
The whole plant is yellowish brown with stiff hairs. Three compound leaves alternate, stipule peltate, ovate-elliptic; Central lobules rhombo-ovate or broadly ovate, lateral lobules obiovate, both surfaces hirsute, abaxially dense; Stipule scutellate, small stipule acicular. Racemes axillary, flowers dense; Bracteoles ovate or lanceolate; Calyx campanulate, calyx teeth 5, upper 2 connate, lower l teeth longer, both inside and outside yellow pilose; Corolla butterfly, bluish-purple, about 1.5 cm long. Pod linear, 5 ~ 10cm long, flat, dense yellowish brown long stiff hair. The flowering period is from May to September and the fruit period is from August to October.
